There is something about B&W and square format that I really like. I think it is because in school the real serious guys were shooting medium format Hassy’s and I couldn’t afford one or the film for it. All the composition rules sort of go out the window for square format for me as well.
Foggy morning in PT and a little late for the sunrise on this. The color capture was real close to B&W with the sun angled as it was. There is something nice about being in town before everything starts up, quiet and only a few folks about. The fog on the water and just lifting really adds to that quiet serene morning feeling.

At last the rejection is over I finally put together my own bird feeder and they started to show up. My guess is they don’t recognize the fact they are eating out of frying pans. The feeder I bought is still getting ignored, just goes to show I guess. I still have to fancy up the feeder I made it is a little embarrassing for a guy that has his own machine shop. Birds don’t seem to care though.
I’m no Jeff Lynch or Moose Peterson and these were shot thru a kitchen window that needs cleaning. Now on to get photos of the Douglas Fir Squirrels before the cats get them.

My friend Cheryl talked Tony into coming out to model for us and it was a blast. Tony is really comfortable in front of the camera, made the day a lot of fun and gave me a chance to try out some new lighting. The light was kind of hazy and this was shot about 4 in the afternoon. Shots looked ok with natural light but I had to try out a VAL with C holding the light. So we lit Tony up with a little cross light from the sun. I like the results, shot about 200 frames. Think I will try the same thing again only later in the day with the sun lower and drop the pwr for the strobe a stop or so, now that I know what to look for. All could be adjusted some in post but I am trying to get to the instinctive point with the lights so it comes out right in camera.

Guy Tal has posted a very thought provoking artical about how images affect us on his bog. Well worth the read
more on this as I figure out the words in my head

Sunday in Port Townsend was the first sunny day in a very long time. It showed and there was a lot of people out. I am a big fan of street photos and wanted to give the genre some attention. It helped that there was a new 10-20 mm lens to try out. High filtered sun and a strange gold cast to it made me start thinking in B&W. Being in town in the middle of the day didn’t help the colors a lot either.

Had a fun day of shooting and walking around PT is a visual treat. On the street there is always something going on and the area is rife with photogenic characters. My normal time for the town in early morning so it was a bit of a challenge to find the ‘light’ I wanted and was used to. All in all it was an interesting day without my speedlights and I am looking forward to a few more of them.
