Saw this while trying out a new coffee shop that is under the street in PT. Had the G9 with me and plan on going back with the big guns some morning. Looks to be an interesting place with lots of couches and rooms for hanging out with coffee and friends. Looks to be pretty good for Jazz on friday nights as well. Now to buy some friends to hang out with….
G9 is a little rough for this kind of low light shot so I dropped the clarity and added a little vignette to go with how the image struck me. Braced the camera on a chair arm and let the slow shutter work its magic. Little different from the images I usually show but there are more in the works.

It looks a bit surreal, perhaps because of the softness of the lower clarity and the glow of the mortar joints. Table for two, but who is it calling to sit there or perhaps they are already seated and we just can’t see them.
An images that easily lends itself to the imagination and stories.
Bring your cameras with you, best friends ever. Looks like a café in my taste, that in combination with some jazz would make me getting there. You got out a nice glow in this image, Ray.
It’s great fun to find unusual lighting. It becomes a challenge to understand how it happened naturally and to figure out how to duplicate it on purpose.
Earl- it was a little surreal, the setting all alone, underground and a pretty empty room.
Ove- you would love this place, and I’m getting pretty attached myself, lots of arched brick doors and rooms with couches and tables…. kinda adult daycare.
Martin- the light just screamed at me. It was overhead angled to light the art on the wall but spilled down on to the table and chair which was much more interesting. I diagrammed the lights and shot other images to record placement etc. I will be using it again for other things.
This is a very cool shot Ray. It’s like you’re standing right there waiting for someone to sit down. Very Jay Maisel. Really!
Thanks Jeff that’s a heck of a compliment and he is one of those I admire most.
It has a painterly quality which I really love.
Chris I thought of your work when I saw this, you would love this place it has a ton of possibilities that scream for a film treatment
Like the story untold here, Ray. Minimalist, perhaps. Artsy, maybe. Not your usual style, for sure, but…gets the mind to working about the rest of the story. Look forward to more.
Thanks Raf trying out a few new things as you can see. Sure like the stuff you are making in Omaha and miss you in PT
I like the image as it has a mystical look to it, I think the clarity slider does a good job of doing that. I also like it without anyone sitting at the table, that would have added a distraction for me. And, we need to be doing something different, all the time. I enjoy coffee shops and there seems to be quite a few along the Northwest Coast.
