The camera that is with you is the right one. iPhone photo while waiting to go drag out the big guns for a shoot at the bicycle shop. This is my favorite photo from the whole day and all I had with me at the time was my phone.
The one with you

Wow…….love it! I read your title differently then you perhaps intended. I interpreted a thought moment with someone, at that table. Two chairs and an empty table, and that melancholic light and tone that you have captured and created helped me into that alley. This is great stuff, Ray.
(People who believes they have to record everything on 30 millions pixels, whatever the occasion or subject matter, really misses something).
Well done, Ray! I really should be using my iphone more often but then I seem to always have my DSLR with all the time. I think it is now an appendage. The bicycle shop sounds like a good idea. I may have to venture over to one and take a few photos.
Now that I have a new phone with more pixels, though not 30 million, I need to start using it more. It has a whopping 3 megapixels, but that seems to be enough to get some really nice shots.
I am in the process of researching for a new carry around system to go with my kit. I’ll post more on that as it comes about. A D700 and 24-70mm are a little large for most indoor places and sort of change the dynamic in a coffee shop. The change can be overcome if you are in there long enough but I rarely get time to just sit for any length of time in one. G9 is a great camera but not a low light camera w/o the flash so I end up just thinkin iPhone at times. Although I have posted others from this place shot with the G9.
The pixel limitations really change how you view the post processing and I have to admit that the Best Camera book by Chase Jarvis is a large influence best $20 I have spent in a long time and one all of you would enjoy.
I like the “atmosphere” of this photo and great play on the title!
I’m seeing more and more decent iPhone photos, not because it’s such a great camera but simply because it’s the one available at the moment. There’s lots to be said for having a carry-along that you actually don’t mind carrying along. I’m currently using a Canon S90, same sensor as the G11, but a much smaller physical package — I can easily fit it in a shirt or jacket pocket. I’ve got a few issues with the design it but it does seem to make decent photos.
It seems like the limitations of the camera let you be more creative. No more thinking about lenses, settings– just shooting.
@Martin I think you are right. With the main rigs I always seem to be going for something commercially viable in some way. It isn’t a really good walk around be invisible rig, but oh do I love what it does. I am planning a series for the new walk around rig when and if it comes about and if not I’ll do the series with what I have.
